PERFUME CONCENTRATIONS EXPLAINED

Perfume Concentration Chart

A fragrance's concentration is the percentage of perfume oil it contains. The higher the concentration, the more perfume oil and the less alcohol, which generally means a richer character and longer wear on skin. Use the chart below to compare each type at a glance.

Type Perfume oil concentration Typical wear on skin
Extrait de Parfum 20–40% 8–10 hours
Eau de Parfum (EDP) 15–20% 4–5 hours
Eau de Toilette (EDT) 5–15% 3–4 hours
Eau de Cologne (EDC) 2–5% Around 2 hours
Eau Fraîche 1–3% The shortest

Wear times are typical ranges. Skin type, climate and the composition itself all affect how long a fragrance lasts.

Each Concentration Explained

Extrait de Parfum

Extrait de Parfum has the highest concentration of perfume oils, between 20% and 40%, which gives it the longest staying power. It is generally the most expensive concentration and can last eight to ten hours on skin. It is the concentration used for every Vach Cittoni fragrance.

Eau de Parfum

Eau de Parfum has the next highest concentration, usually around 15% to 20%, and typically lasts four to five hours. With less oil and more alcohol, it costs less than Extrait de Parfum. It is one of the most popular concentrations and is often chosen for evenings and nights out.

Eau de Toilette

Eau de Toilette contains 5% to 15% perfume oil, with more alcohol than Eau de Parfum. It usually lasts three to four hours, depending on skin type, and is a popular choice for daytime wear.

Eau de Cologne

Eau de Cologne, or EDC, sits below Eau de Toilette at around 2% to 5% perfume oil. Because of the lower concentration, it typically lasts around two hours.

Eau Fraîche

Eau Fraîche has the lowest concentration, around 1% to 3%. Rather than more alcohol, most of the remaining formula is water, which makes it the lightest and shortest-lasting option.

Fragrance Notes

Most fragrances are built from three layers of notes, arranged by the perfumer so the scent unfolds over time.

Top Notes

The first impression, noticeable immediately after spraying. Top notes are the lightest and fade the fastest.

Heart Notes

Also called middle notes, these emerge as the top notes fade. The heart forms the core character of the fragrance.

Base Notes

The richest layer, revealed as the fragrance dries down. Base notes are what stays on skin the longest.

Why Vach Cittoni Works at 28%

Every Vach Cittoni fragrance is made as an Extrait de Parfum at 28% concentration. Concentration matters, but it is never the whole answer: the composition still has to stay balanced as it develops, wear well on skin, and be worth returning to hours later.
